When do I need to pay for my ticket?

The best way to secure your seat at the fare you want is to pay when you are booking. All online bookings need to be paid for at the checkout by credit card or internet banking with POLi.

If you book over the phone with our contact centre, you can use your credit card, or if you would prefer to pay at one of InterCity's 600 retail sales agents or at any New Zealand Post Shop we can give you a booking reference (reservation number) and you can pay by cash or other payment method.

Please note that if your ticket is not paid within the specified timeframe before travel (see below) it will be automatically cancelled and your seat will likely be re-sold. The responsibility for ensuring your ticket is paid before travel rests with you.

Flexi Fares: For bookings made more than 48 hours from travel, payment is required at least 48 hours before departure or the booking will be auto-cancelled. For bookings made inside 48 hours of travel, payment is required within 24 hours or the booking will be auto-cancelled.

Standard Fares: Payment is required within 24 hours of booking or the booking will be auto-cancelled.  Read more about the different fare types.
